Argo On Tour

Dayna, Sacha & Leigh have just returned from attending the annual ASSID Conference (Australasian Society for the Study of Intellectual Disability) in Melbourne Australia. The Argo contingent were fortunate enough to receive the necessary funding from the Ministry of Health as well as the Trust - to which they are extremely thankful. The conference was held at the RMIT University and was based around new research and studies done in the intellectual disability field. There were some very interesting topics, though not much that we could really use in every day Argo life. Nonetheless, we had a great time, Melbourne is a beautiful city and the weather was hot!
While in Melbourne we caught up Jade and Elizabeth (Ex Argo - see photo) and we all went out for beautiful outdoor Italian meal that was accompanied by live street Jazz!

If you have any questions or comments about the conference we would be happy to answer them?

Leigh.

Places that Argo recommends to eat.

We would like to introduce a new category for the blog which is 'Places to eat'. Its not easy to find places to eat which are nice and actually cater your taste buds and needs. Here are some of the places that we recommend to eat.

1) Felix- Corner of Wakefield St. & Manners Street.

2) Sweet Mothers Kitchen - At the end of Courtney Place (Embassy theater end)

3) The Occidental - Corner lambton Quay & Ballance St

4) The Establishment - Courtney Place

5) The Bristol - Cuba St.

6) Olive Cafe - Cuba St.

These are great places for Argonauts to hang and enjoy their meal while catering their needs. We are open to other suggestions and this section will be constantly update as soon as new places are introduced. Do add your suggestions at the 'comment' section underneath this entry. Bon appetit!

Argo United got FOURTH place!

Yes, Argo United managed to get fourth for the Ethnic Soccer competition held in Upper Hutt, Wellington. The competition consist of 16 teams of different nationalities. Argo United was joined by friends of Argo.

Out of six of the games played, Argo or Eurasian as we were called for the competition, manage to grab three wins and that managed to get us through till the semi finals and played for the third and fourth placement. Unfortunately many of us were no able to play for the final game because the fixture was changed which explains the fourth placing.

Overall we all played very well as a team and exceeded everybody's expectation as we started off as the underdog. Our biggest thanks to Argo trustees, Argonauts friends and all those who have support our team throughout the competition. Till we battle again on the field. Thanks.

Argo's United is back!

Hey everyone! Springs here and Argo United is back with some new summer signings. So first let me introduce the veteran players. We'll start with the oldest. Leigh, Steve, Guliano, Emily, Angie, Fabian, Loretha and myself, Sean. Our new wonderkid summer signing is Amelie (I hope I spelled her name correctly). She's an exciting new talent who was spotted by our very own Leigh. We had a good start by thrashing the GIRLS team 14-0. 1o of the goals were from the girls. Anyhu, here's the league table so far as well other fixtures so Argo United fans could come and spread the love on the field with us. Till then take care everyone and enjoy the sun.

The Nasty Winter bug!

The sun is beginning to shine in the land of Argo. The past one month Argo's dealing with some nasty bug which got a lot of Argonauts and staff sick. Due to this, there has not been alot of exciting activities happening at Argo.

This week is looking different though. Situations are looking up and Argo is picking up pace. You can hear screams and shouts!( happy ones of course) instead of horrible coughs and silence due to everyone being in bed. I for one am glad that now I have the energy to work with Leigh again to develop this blog.

I'm sure Leigh shares the same sentiment as I would like to apologise for the lack of updates on Argo's and resident blog. Things will only look better from now on, and that is our wish. Till then expect more to come on each residents blog, where will begin with improving the layout with little posting. After that phase is done it will be the other way around. Leigh and I are happy to hear your opinion and suggestions on improving Argo's online adventure. You can do that by dropping a comment at the bottom of each posting. Need futher directions, just call leigh ;). I'm sure he'll be more than happy to help. Till then peace and love everyone.

Autism New Zealand Conference: Making the Connections

Jadwyn, Loretha and I (Sean) was given the opportunity to go down to Christchurch and attend the Autism New Zealand Conference: Making the Connections. The conference was held on the 12-14th September at Hotel grand Chancellor.

The conference was attended by many inspiring speakers and presenters from New Zealand, United Kingdom and the United States. Theere were many lectures and discussions around the Autism spectrum and Asperger syndrome.

Now formality aside, there were a lot of things that we have learned at the conference: awareness, dignified risk, and sensory sensitivity were highly discussed by the three of us. The experience was a breath of fresh air for me personally knowing that there were alot of people beside the wonderful people of Argo that shares our aspiration especially in regards to increasing awareness and dignified risk (I use to call it exploring boundaries but hey whichever scratches the itch).

I personally would like to share this experience with anyone who is interested and I'm Loretha and jadwyn feels the same as well. Loretha might bite but I wont. Jadwyn just has the flu. Anyways, its nice sharing this information to whoever is reading it. Till then peace and love to everyone.
